Legislative Lookout An important victory-in-the-making for welfare rights: SSB 5625 and SSB 5163 passed the state Senate and have moved into the House for consideration. SSB 5625 would provide more flexible time limits to recipients complying with WorkFirst. This legislation is particularly needed by victims of domestic violence, disabled parents, and grandparents caring for grandchildren. SSB 5163 would cancel previous effort to require moms to return to outside work when their infant is 3 months old. The bill would also allow more flexibility for other recipients who can't participate in WorkFirst. Call your two Representatives and let them know you support these bills. To find out who the heck your Representatives are, call the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000. *April activist tip: Keep your representatives' names and numbers by your phone so you can call them impulsively at any time.* ________________________________________
