Home Alive, a grassroots organization that works for the prevention of violence, is putting together a book of essays, poems, and artwork which will explore the concept of self defense and self care through personal stories and interviews. If you are interested in sharing experiences you have had in which you have survived some kind of violence, harassment, abuse, or assault, I would love to talk with you. The experiences can be around domestic violence, sexual assault, employment discrimination, coping with abuse from someone in your life, boundary setting with friends or family, standing up for yourself, intervening in a situation that didn't directly involve you--any experience where you did something to take care of yourself at any point in your life.
The stories will be compiled into a book about self defense as social change. If you are interested in sharing a story, please contact me at Home Alive. You can also submit artwork, poetry, writings, photos, or other artistic means you may have used to express or survive an event. Submissions can be anonymous. We encourage people to look back on all the cool things they have done to survive and thrive in the world, and share them! We have a lot to learn from each other.
