Revolutionary Women of Afghanistan Need Support

The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) is organizing an International Women's Day celebration for March 8, 2000 in Pakistan. Last year, more than a thousand people participated. This year, organizers hope the celebration will be even larger. The event will send a loud message to the world about women's plight in Afghanistan, and bring together women from that bereaved country to network and organize.

Many women in Kabul and other cities are eager to participate, but most cannot afford to pay for transportation. RAWA must raise $35,000 to cover the costs of transportation and accommodation for 2,000 women, many of whom will be traveling from remote villages. They are calling upon feminists around the world for support.

RAWA is also organizing a large demonstration for April 29, to observe the "day of the fundamentalists' devastating rape of Kabul." Any funds received after IWD will go directly toward this important event.

RAWA's promise: "Despite being under enemy fire from all sides, RAWA will continue to shoulder the banner of struggle against Taliban and Jihadi traitors to the very last and without the slightest capitulation."

Please make your check or money order payable to "Support Afghan Women," and send to: Support Afghan Women, PMB 226, 915 W. Arrow Hwy., San Dimas, CA 91773. The entire contribution will be sent to RAWA. For more info, go to their website at http://www.rawa.org.
